The Wall St Thieves 3

Well I had the lads back in studio today, after their last visit its been mad with the amount of calls from listeners asking "when are they coming back on" to keep everyone happy we got them back into studio again.  The Wall Street Thieves are a four piece rock group. The band was started by Che Horgan and Eric Doherty in 2008.  There has been a couple of changes in the bands line up since then, having had Colin Morgan drumming to be replaced by Dereck O Shea who was later replaced by James Zinkant who is currently with the band. The lead guitarist, Eric Doherty, has been replaced by Dave O Callaghan. The line up is completed by the solid Shane Norberg on Bass who is also doubling on harmony vocals. Ranging in age from early to mid twenties, the members invoke an era when songwriters had something to say and music had substance. 

They write and perform their own material but also have an extensive repertoire of covers. They perform the songs of Creedence Clearwater Revival, The Band, Rory Gallagher, Bob Dylan, The Rolling Stones, The Beatles and many others with a command that belies their age and an infectious enthusiasm which reflects it.

I started off asking the usual question, how were things going for them since we last spoke and they replied that things were going well. Then the lads played a new track for me in the studio and as always they sound great. With a sound that takes you back in time to the early days of Rock and Roll, Harmonies play an important part of this bands performance and they got that side of things right. With great harmonies and a driving beat to back it up the band have obviously worked hard to get the current sound and style they have and it sounds like a whole new fresh approach to music even though they have incorporated sounds from many of the idols and bands they love to listen to.

I asked them if they had received many comparisons to the previous incarnations of the band, did people ask about the older members or did the changes effect the performances as a whole, Che replied that in general people didn’t question it, They have a great fan base and everyone knows the band so they knew about the changes going on from time to time. It’s a tough business but they decided to keep going and the result is a strong confident band with a strong well rehearsed sound which, at the end of the day is all that matters when it comes to booking new gigs and venues.

The lads have built up a loyal following in and around the Cork area, and have a gigging schedule which would be the envy of many. Recent months have seen the band receive airplay for their new CD, having it reviewed very favorably by Hot Press Magazine, and played a very well received set at the Electric Picnic Festival last year.
