Best of the Marine sessions

The Best of the Marine sessions interview 16th Jan 2011
From time to time we come across a musical treat which I feel we must bring to the attention of our readers In the East Music scene we have many acts, bands, singer, groups, songwriters all who are very
talented in so many ways. On this occasion I want to talk about a
brand new CD which is aptly called the Best of the Marine Sessions in
reference to the Marine Bar in the Strand Youghal which has played
host to so many musical nights over the year. It’s great to see a
local venue constantly supporting local music. Under the guidance of
Claycastle Studios a new 12 track CD has been released featuring
artists from the local area and who have played in The Marine Bar at
some stage over the last year.
Starting off the track listing we come across prolific songwriting
team of DeBurca with their song Feed It. This group has gone from
strength to strength over the last few years winning many awards for
music and songwriting. The second track on the album comes from singer
Frank McLellan and is called Happy Land and is well worth a listen,
Fiona Kiely is third on the list with the song called Want you Some
which shows her vocal talents off in a wonderful melodic voice. This
is followed by the dynamic duo The Birds with the song Wildflowers As
always these ladies have come up trumps once again.
Dave Curtin is next in line with his current and appropriately titled
song for this current climate called Bankers. Local group Dodge and
the Urban Druids are also included with their song 1620 this group are
known for their hard hitting lyrics mixed with great melodies. Local
musican and singer Niall McCarthy is next on the CD with his song Free
Niall who is always in much demand when he plays locally. He is
followed on the listings by Lynda Cullen and her song I get Out Of
Bed, Lynda brings a unique sound to this song and is a lady to be
watched for when she plays in your area.
Steve Whelan is joined by his band with their offering called Lands of
Freedom which brings a new sound to his soulful, blues style and its
ninth in the list. The group Silta with there unusually titled song
Kjetto are next on the CD and is well worth a second listen This is
followed by the Martin Valley Quartet and there song The Wheel nice to
see a group bring to life a great song with a great hook and finally
rounding off all the great music is Alamo Bandit with the number
Killing Floor.
Its great to see so many artists on the one CD and it only proves that
you don’t have to go outside the East Cork area fro great music and
talent. The CD is available in shops now so keep an eye out for
it.Already looking forward to Vol 2 which is due out later in the year
with many other great local artists who didnt make this album.
