Over the year we will be taking a look at musicians and singers from the East Cork area, singers we have all heard from time to time, let it be in the church choir or singing in the background at some of the events, festivals that we go to over the year. Today we are going to introduce you to one of these wonderful singers.
This week we are starting in Cobh with the lady who it has been said has the voice of an angel she has sung at weddings, funerals and other church related activities as part of a choir, as a solo singer she has preformed at many different social events here in Ireland and abroad.
This lady has graced the stage with the show Dancing through the ages and is a member of the highly acclaimed Cork-based choir, Madrigal ’75
Many will recognise the name Caroline Fraher, but how many people are actually aware that this lady is prolific in the music scene in East Cork. Caroline from Cobh started singing publicly the age of 5 competing in the Feis Maitiu competitions. At the age of 14 she joined St. Colman’s Cathedral Youth Choir, her first choir. From there she studied music and even received vocal training under Fiona O’Reilly and Robert Craig at Cork School of Music. As she got older and the demand for her wonderful voice increased as more and more people heard her sing she decided to continue to sing for many of the wedding in the East Cork area, that in itself became a shop window so to speak and more and more young couples wanted her to become a part of their big day.
Throughout her fifteen-year career as a wedding singer she has sung at hundred of weddings over that time making each wedding special and memorable for the couples getting married. She has been touring continuously with the Dancing through the Ages show and has been involved on some local charity projects lending her voice talent to some of these fundraising CD’s. If you go to you tube and click on her name you can see one or two video clips of her singing.
Caroline has released many songs on different CD’s down through the years most recently with the group Dearga which is made up from the members of the Dancing Thru The Ages band. She has also sang live in Cobh Cathedral last year for the local Lions Club Fundraising event for Haiti, This CD is also available locally, She has released other cd hers self which can be bought from her own website www. Carolingfraher.com
Recently due to much demand she has gone into the recording studio and under the guidance of legendary musician and producer Steve Cooney they decided to go back to her Celtic roots for her new EP, which will be available shortly on iTunes. This album is a slight departure from what you would normally associate with Caroline. But with this ladies talent it is something that should be in your music collection. With a melodic, tuneful and soulful voice this lady is going to go far and will provide us with many years of musical entertainment to come
