The Song Collector Sessions with Corks own Roy Buckley has a new home in Cork . This month sees the first of the Song Collector Sessions shows in one of Corks preimer live venues The Pavilion! The Song Collector Sessions is a monthly event that gets up close and personal with Ireland’s established, leading and promising artists.Hosted by Roy Buckley The Song Collector Sessions allows the audienece to to get an insight into the minds and the music of some of this county’s greatest songwriters and indeed, song collectors. The Song Collector Sessions will feature different guests each month and each show is unique. So far guests have included Mike Hanrahan, Hank Wedel, Ricky Lynch, Andy Dunne, among others.
Among Roy 's guests this month are Cork legend, John Spillane, John is a musician, songwriter, performer, recording artist, storyteller, poet, dreamer – a canvass filled with color and brilliance. His music transports the listener; his live performance captivates the audience. In a world filled with strife and upheaval, a time-out with John Spillane is enough to ease the load a bit on anyone lucky enough to bask in his light. The man and his music are pure magic.
Another guest on the night is Francie Conway Singer/songwriter, musician & producer originally from Co. Kerry but now based in Dublin . Francie has recorded and worked with many great bands as well as his own group The Works'.He also played with The Fureys. Francie has recorded a number of albums under the title of 'Francie Conway with The Works'. He formed 'CONWAY ', a collaboration of musicians, writers, programmers and producers fronted by Francie.
Also on the bill is George Murphy who in 2004 just out of secondary school burst onto the Irish music scene after his show stealing performances on the Irish ‘You’re a Star’. He landed a record deal and a number one triple platinum album followed, leading to extensive tours of the country and collaborations with the greats of Irish music including The Dubliners, Phil Coulter, The Furey’s, Aslan and Paddy Casey. George, who hails from the north Dublin suburb of Beaumont , had never performed as a singer before his audition and subsequent rise to fame.
Then we have the fantastic Dave Browne, He is a resident performer in The Temple Bar Pub in Dublin and plays every weekend with many other talented singers and musicians. In addition, Dave has shared a stage and studio with many well known musicians The Commitments, Ronnie Drew, John Spillane, Phil Chevron and Spider Stacey from the Pogues, Aslan, The Dubliners but to name a few.
