It was arranged that I would interview Jimmy Flanagan and Mark Ansboro during the week, the two men responsible for bringing out this new CD “the Memories of the Voice of Youghal”. At the appointed time Jimmy arrived but Mark was delayed, he had to drive to Cork to buy a special lead to connect a computer to a camera for Sunday nights CD Launch, this was typical of the work that has gone into this project for the last two months with every spare minute devoted to bringing this new CD to a whole new audience.

Hell For leather
Hell For leather interview 8th Nov 2010
If your wondering who “Hell for leather” are? They are Michael Carey 28 on guitar and vocals from Ladysbridge, Jer O Leary 24 on Mandolin from Ladysbridge and Ken Landers 30 on drums from Carrightwohill. Each of the lads sings, or as they say them selves, we shout along in the background to what ever song is being played. On first impression this bunch of lads are a little wild if not bordering on insane, but its all in good spirits.
It all started with the song “Seamus just wants to be Famous” on youtube.

I have interviewed many musicians in my day but this interview was different for many reasons. John Joyce, a grand nephew to the famous James Joyce. who is living in Waterford came to Youghal to chat with me last week and to play some of the tracks he has recorded and written over the last few years. John, who from time to time plays in nearby Cloyne where his brother Philip lives, bears an uncanny resemblance to his famous ancestor James Joyce.

Louise first started singing in her local choir and from there went on to sing in local venues at party nights. A few short years ago she decided to move to Scotland and her love of singing continued,

Gavin Moore interview 20th Sept 2010.
Born into what is arguably Ireland’s most famous music family, Gavin Moore, who spoke with Shane Supple this week on Youghal radio, respects the influences of his uncles Christy Moore and Luka Bloom, but musically, this singer songwriter is most definitely his own man. Gavin started playing guitar when he was 16 and in turn started singing at the same time accompanying himself as he learned new songs. Like most people he then progressed to writing his own songs, and then some years ago he attended Coláiste Stiofáin Naofa in Cork where he further honed his songwriting skills.

Legends in Concert
On a night that Cork and Waterford replayed the Munster Hurling final under lights and in the rain, the people of Youghal and the surrounding areas were ably entertained by representatives of the same two counties, Corkman Art Supple and Waterford man Brendan Bowyer, this was no clash of the ash, it was however a fantastic journey down memory lane at the Walter Raleigh Hotel, where there was a brief glimpse back in time to the sunny days of music and fun as two of Ireland’s showband legends entertained a capacity crowd, some who had traveled from Mayo, Dublin, Galway and Sligo.

Suzanne Joubert
This week I had the pleasure of interviewing Singer songwriter Suzanne Joubert who is currently living in Ballycotton in Co Cork ‘Come on Home’ is the debut disc from South African born, but Ireland based singer/songwriter Suzanne Joubert; since 2004 she has been recording and performing live with Declan Sinnott (renowned producer of Sinead Lohan and Mary Black) - the results of this partnership are evident in this melodic and accessible album. Known for his polished, but sensitive and empathetic work, his production style proves to be the perfect vehicle for Joubert’s silky-smooth voice as the songs have strong melodies and hooks, but also decently crafted lyrics.Friday, September 11, 2009

John Sheehan The Dubliners
This week I spoke with John Sheehan on the phone about his upcoming concert in Cork Opera House this August. Sometimes referred to as, "The quiet one," John is the only member of the group to have had a formal musical education. He was rather proud of this status Until quite recently when an old man in a rural district of Ireland came up to him, following a concert, and said, "Tell me, young fellow, do you read music or are you gifted?"
